Sustainable living - the new normal

Sustainable living - the new normal

Sustainable living has quickly gone from being just a buzzword to being a necessity, especially in real estate. From construction to completion, the optimisation of every step to ensure minimum ecological harm is a key responsibility of both developers and residents. At Brigade Cornerstone Utopia, we have incorporated a myriad of sustainable living features across the project.

Electric vehicles

In 2010, there were only 17,000 electric cars on all the world’s roads. By 2030, it’s predicted that India alone will have over 250 million electrical cars, significantly reducing the burden on the limited fuels available as well as atmospheric emissions. This is a great step forward to ensure a more sustainable approach to our country’s growth, and at Brigade Cornerstone Utopia, we have taken that step.

Having everything you could need from convenience stores to commercial complexes, only a stone’s throw away, Brigade Cornerstone Utopia has also taken into consideration the rising need for electric vehicles. We have accommodated this need by providing electrical charging ports for cars to encourage sustainable living.

Urban forests

Aside from the breath-taking views and the calmness of greenery, as developers we understand what a significant role green initiatives play in offsetting the damage done to the environment. Housing and commercial projects are inevitable and par for the course in urban life- but that does not mean we do it at the expense of nature.

Across the 47-acre land that Brigade Cornerstone Utopia is built on, we have constructed six parks, including medical, sensory and butterfly gardens. Moreover, we have planted over 16,000 trees throughout the property, approximately 30 times more than you would see through conventional techniques. Likewise, Brigade Valencia in Electronic City is dotted with green buffer zones that includes planting zones, community garden, pathways lined with trees, aroma garden and many more.

Waste management

Bangalore produces approximately 6,200 tonnes of waste a day. Over half of this is organic and can be used for manure and biogases, which is why at Brigade Cornerstone Utopia, we ensure nothing goes to waste. We provide necessary infrastructure and have tied up with external vendors who help maximise waste segregation.

Water Recycling

Water is a precious resource that we have to be extremely mindful of in our day-to-day lives. To ensure that we always have access to enough water, we use a mix of traditional practices and cutting-edge technology. We have a high-tech sequencing batch reactor sewage treatment plant, where we make use of treated black and grey water. Through recycling and reusing wastewater, we have reduced the demand for fresh water. We have a state-of-the-art rainwater harvesting system, bio-retention ponds to recharge the aquifer, smart metres to monitor water usage, wastewater recycling plants and a triple plumbing system to ensure that we live within our means.

Brigade Group has long been an advocate of a sustainable way of life and through our properties such as Brigade Cornerstone Utopia, we continue to work towards improving quality of life, while optimising for sustainable living. As a result, a large number of our projects have been Green Building Certified.
