GST RATE CUT

M R Jaishankar, CMD, Brigade Group in an interview with Business Television India (BTVI) shared his views on the recent changes in GST rates.

“There are two aspects to the proposed GST amendments announced. We welcome the 1% GST on affordable housing, that will reduce the cost impact for the end user and also increase demand. However, the reduction of GST from 12% to 5% on the non-affordable segment will only help in improving the perception, created by the optical illusion of reduced GST.

I am of the opinion that, if the Government is serious about giving a boost to the real estate sector, it should reduce GST on inputs that go into real estate construction like cement, that is classified as luxury and charged a SIN tax of 28%”.
