Compost from Bengaluru’s wet waste brings relief to farmers
Under the initiative propelled by the Karnataka State Compost Development Corporation (KSCDC), over 600 tonnes of wet waste supplied by the citizens of Bengaluru was transformed into a whopping 4,306 tonnes of organic compost. This in turn was made available to the farmers at a subsidised cost. This will help them reap a better yield at comparatively lower prices.
With apprehensions of rapid urbanisation & massive infrastructure projects taking a toll on natural resources, this can be seen as a great example of backward integration where cities are able to contribute positively to the agricultural economy of the country.
